Property development involves organising the purchase and development of new and existing properties, with an aim of increasing the value of the properties for reselling or leasing.

Property development, primarily related to urban and commercial uses, has featured heavily in the South West Metropolitan Region over the last few decades in response to strong population and business growth. Established property developers own, hold and develop property in response to supply and demand and other housing and commercial market conditions. Access to information on the availability of land or properties for development is available from variety of sources.

The two peak organisations for the property development industry in WA are the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) WA Division and the Property Council of WA. Major property developers with a presence in the region include Stocklands, Satterley, Mirvac, Lendlease, Match and LandCorp.
