Perth Urban Freight Corridor

 

The major roads through the South West Corridor form part of the Perth Urban Freight Corridor linking Kewdale to the Trade Coast (Fremantle to Rockingham).

The Federal Government has committed to spending $350 million under AusLink 2 to improve safety and reduce congestion in the Perth Urban Freight Corridor.

Figure 1, taken from the Perth Urban Corridor Strategy March 2007, shows that many segments of the road network are under stress impacting on Levels of Service.

The South West Group has been advocating for additional lanes on the Kwinana Freeway, introduction of Intelligent Transport Systems, improved east west links reaching across to the Tonkin Highway.

In its submission to the Building Australia Fund, the South West Group recommended a further $100 million be allocated to the Perth Urban Freight Corridor within the South West Corridor. The South West Group also supports intervention to increase the number of containers transported by rail.
