South Coast Corridor Tourist Drive
The South West Group and the South West Corridor Development Foundation hosted a Tourism Forum at Rockingham in September 2007.
One of the key recommendations from the Tourism Forum was the development of a Tourist Drive between Fremantle and Mandurah following as close as practicable to the coast.
A route was developed and has been supported by all of the local governments from Fremantle to Mandurah and a kilometerage description developed travelling from the North to the South.
The proposed State Tourist Drive will give access to over 15 beaches and is the closest practicable route to the coast south of Fremantle. Along its route are coastal cliffs, regional parks, views of Garden Island, Shoalwater Marine Park, a historic light house, limestone kilns and the rich heritage of Fremantle. The travel time is reasonably comparable with other inland routes.
The South West Group will now develop a business plan and make a formal submission to the State Tourist Drive Committee.
